Solar Inks Ltd. was founded by Jonathan Mack in 2004 and focuses on highly innovative barrier solutions using only sustainable ingredients. The three product lines—Earth Inks, Earth Coatings and Earth Adhesives—have earned the company a great reputation within the packaging industry.

Barrier Coatings – a short introduction
Barrier coatings act as an alternative to traditional plastic packaging as they add specific functionalities to paper-based packaging products. The majority of barrier coatings are used by the food and packaging industries. For these applications, they are used as moisture barriers, oil barriers, and oxygen barriers.
Global demand volume for functional and barrier coatings applications in paper and board packaging reached almost 3m tonnes in 2018, with a value of USD 7.8b.
There is a rising need for barrier coatings that can both provide the needed high protection level from the petroleum-based barrier coatings and be recyclable, bio-based or bio-degradable at the same time.
According to a Smithers Pira sustainable coatings report, a wider adoption of sustainable barrier technologies, displacing petroleum-based types, has the potential to disrupt the entire value chain across the next five years.
