The sports nutrition provider Sporternährung Mitteregger sold more than 30 % of its shares to Private Equity investor Hannover Finanz in the course of a capital increase. Owner Konrad Kreid retains a stake of around 70 percent. The fast-growing sports nutrition specialist, founded in 1999 by the martial arts athlete Johannes Mitteregger, aims to significantly strengthen its own financial strength and further expand its branch network in the DACH region.
The provider’s stationary shops and online shops have specialised in nutritional supplements for athletes under the names Sportnahrung.at and Sportnahrung.de and are represented by eleven branches in Austria, 16 branches in Germany and 12 franchisees.
Martin Walka, the responsible partner at HANNOVER Finanz, commented: „Like Konrad Kreid, we see great potential for further growth. In addition, the rather diversified market consisting of many small players offers opportunities for acquisitions„.
Hannover Finanz has already gained substantial experience in the sports and outdoor sector. The successful equity partnership with Runners Point lasted more than eight years and the Austrian bicycle manufacturer Simplon has been part of the portfolio since 2014.
Sportnahrung is the largest provider of sports nutrition and training supplements in the DACH region. The sports nutrition specialist offers its products for professional athletes and for the hobby and leisure sector. The range includes tailor-made articles for muscle building, weight loss, fat reduction and endurance and performance enhancement. With its own brands PowerTec and Sportnahrung.de, the specialist also has two of the best-known and most popular supplements brands on the sports market.
Konrad Kreid has been the managing director and owner since 2015. In 2016, the company with its approximately 100 employees generated annual sales in the double-digit million euro range and currently has 300,000 customers in the DACH region.
